Colourful campery with Donlevy baring his manly torso as a martinet Russian naval captain striking terror into his fledgling crew. Among the musical comedy sailors is Rimsky-Korsakov (Aumont), soon to unearth his muse (De Carlo) dancing in a Moroccan dive, transport her (disguised as a cadet) to the St Petersburg opera, and write his immortal melodies for her. Typical Hollywood tripe, presumably tongue-in-cheek but done with more verve than wit.Author: TM

This film is not only enhanced by he sheer beauty of the fabulous Yvonne De Carlo, but by the stricking beauty of Rimshk-Korsakov's music. Miklos Rosza arranged a masterful score of Rimsky-Korsakov's music wihch underlines a very charming and witty plot in the film. Forget about hisorical accuracy, and enjoy the masterfully scripted plot performed by such acclaimed actors as Brain Donlevy and Phillip Reed and actresses such asYvonne De Carlo and Eve Arden. This is a really elegant and delightful film. It's one of my all-time favorites! I highly reccomend it!
