I Love a Man in Uniform (1993)
Director: David Wellington
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Henry Adler realises his acting ambitions when he lands the part of a tough-guy sergeant in a TV cop show. Sporting the full black-leather regalia, he acquires a sense of self-importance he can't wait to test out by walking the streets and passing himself off as a real police officer. At first, Wellington's debut plays Henry's misadventures as dark comedy; but when shooting begins of the authentically cheesy Crimewave and Henry's off-screen relationship with his co-star fails to develop satisfactorily, the writer/director's wider scheme falls into place. McCamus's compelling lead performance delineates the increasingly violent results when one anguished individual starts blurring the distinctions; and the film as a whole is provocative and disturbing in the way it leaves viewers to decide how much their sympathies are implicated in the power trip from alienation to psychosis.Author: TJ
