Les Randonneurs (1996)
Director: Philippe Harel
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Five friends (3m/2f), all with troubles of their own, get on each other's nerves during a walking holiday in Corsica. Ever since Monsieur Hulot, French cinema has held to the maxim that taking vacations is seldom a good idea, and Harel's film also derives quiet amusement from observing the discomforts of its little group: tantrums from the one who can't keep up, getting lost, discovering their food has been eaten by 'wild pigs'. Full marks to the ensemble playing, especially Poelvoorde as the teeth-grittingly hearty group leader and the lugubrious Harel, whose character spends his time fretting over a possessive girlfriend back home. Stick around till after the end credits for a melancholy coda, a series of titles recounting what did, and didn't, happen subsequently.Author: BBa
