American Ninja (1985)
Director: Sam Firstenberg
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Joe, new to a US Army base in the Philippines, squints a lot and goes round the island zapping foreign types who steal Army weaponry for their own devious political purposes. He's a top-grade Ninja, which allows him to catch arrows in mid-flight, look serious, spout cod-Zen aphorisms, and don a natty black designer boilersuit and mask before kicking the shit out of thousands of Oriental Ninjas. This flaccid fiasco fails not merely due to the endless series of clichés and questionable political attitudes on view, but also because the script, direction and performances are so risibly inept.Author: GA
