Amnesia

Stylised farcical tragedy about the cost of forgetting the pre-'democracy' dictatorship. A one-time soldier of the 'Devil's Route Battalion' comes across his sadistic former sergeant in the streets of Valparaiso and contemplates revenge. This quiet, melancholic film uses a nightmare-like flashback structure, expressionistic sound effects, surreal colour photography, wide lenses, lonely night-time locations and heightened naturalistic performances to weave a compassionate examination of the fallacy (as the sergeant puts it) that 'time erases everything'.
