A Jekyll/Hyde quickie rip-off, Laserblast is the epitome of what Frank Zappa once hymned as 'cheapness'. Shot in the director's front room, space creatures courtesy of Kelloggs, and a laser-gun that must have cost several dollars, it has all the sincerity of a plastic dashboard Jesus. The power that the alien laser confers on weedy Billy does allow him some vengeful destruction, but this is stingily confined to police cars and he duly pays the dreadful price - terminal alienship ('Billy, why can't you be more ordinary?').
