Synopsis

Based on the Steven Gould novel, 'Jumper' follows a young man (Christensen) who discovers that he has the ability to teleport. In his quest for the man he believes is responsible for the death of his mother, the kid draws the attention of the National Security Agency and another youth (Jamie Bell) who has the same powers.

Movie review

From Time Out London

Although last-minute cast changes raised the age of its protagonist from 18 to 25, ‘Bourne Identity’ director Doug Liman’s adolescent wish-fulfilment fantasy about ‘jumper’ Hayden Christensen’s ability to teleport himself to any tourist spot on the globe is based on a ‘young adult’ novel. And it shows. First Christensen (Anodyne Skywalker from the ‘Star Wars’ sequels) escapes from his angry father, then he robs a bank to fund a colour supplement lifestyle. Later, he whisks his startled girlfriend (Rachel Bilson) off to Rome. But it’s not all about irresponsible hedonism.

With the reluctant help of scruffy fellow ‘jumper’ Jamie Bell, Christensen eludes the pursuing Paladins (don’t ask) lead by blond-barneted baddie Samuel Jackson. Then he embarks upon a predictable ‘coming-of-age’ quest to find his missing mother. CGI trickery and physical stunts abound, but the spastic action is more agitating than exciting. Long before the 88 minutes are up, you may be thinking, ‘Beam me up, Scottie’.

Posted on Oct 09 2008 06:07 i thought the movie was good, but i also read about a possible director's cut and liman's disapproval of the final product. I hope to see a director's cut

Posted on Oct 03 2008 12:28 Unfortunately a terrible film. The storyline had no depth and did not explain why the Paladin's were killing the Jumpers and any indication as to the why this war was going on. For the most part the character was immature and selfish although he was only 15. Some of the special effects were quite good but the scenes were not particular believable or unique

Posted on Aug 30 2008 23:15 I thought this movie was great. Wished I could jump about too. Then began to get frustrated by the way the characters were relating to each other, their lack of logic was actually creating all of the problems they were encountering. This is actually a movie of how not to be a jumper. Then the movie abruptly ended with the revelation that his mum's a Paladin. As the credits rolled I thought "Has Sky cut half the movie? How did he track his mum down? Will there be a proper close in a Directors Cut? Have they all left us hanging for Jumper 2? Are they trying to be funny by giving us a 'jumpy' ending? Maybe the editors were all on cocaine? Don't waste your time or money if you have a brain!

Posted on Aug 30 2008 23:02 Most disappointing. If I'd watched this at the cinema I would have asked for half my money back as I felt like I only saw half a film. No explanations and now conclusions. In a word 'Pants'!

Posted on Jun 05 2008 23:53 This is the worst film I have ever seen, what a waste of money, damn good actors in utter bag of crap! I would hang my head in shame if I had penned the script, was really looking forward to it and wanted to jump out of my seat after the first ten minutes, what a bore! A child in kindergarten could devise a more interesting tale, there was no depth whatsoever, no surprises, no twists, nothing to keep you guessing, no reason for them to be hating eachother or at war! avoid at all costs! Shoudl have gone straight to the cutting room floor, all of it!

Posted on Apr 06 2008 20:39 wow. most incredibly the shittiest film i have seen in awhile. and i actually like hayden christensan. and its not really his acting, but what was he thinking accepting a screenplay like that? maybe if its for four year olds. cringing, cringing the whole time. what a shit film. what the hell happened? the director in the past is not half bad. is this something he takes home and expects an award for? if i was anyone involved in the making of this film i would be embarrassed and never own up to being a part of it! save your time and money. hope to see something incredible come out of the actors and director in near future or they will go down with this jummper ship for the rest of their careers

Posted on Mar 22 2008 19:23 Firstly, if you're reading this, don't listen to the people who said it was crap because they don't like how the film goes.. it's a fast-paced entertaining film which goes into detail on the whole 'jumper' thing (i would want too see more detail but hey, no film's perfect).
Happy to give it 4 stars
