They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Well ‘they’ obviously haven’t seen ‘The Love Guru’, an overgrown dirt-patch of clunking juvenilia from the sick mind of writer/star Mike Myers which sees the once-heralded Canadian funnyman now frantically scrabbling at the piss/shit/snot-flecked depths of the low-brow comedy slop bucket.

Supposedly a bawdy satire about society’s dependence on spiritual gurus who spout quick-fix answers and acronym-heavy mantra, it feels more like Myers has been in a state of cryogenesis since finishing the last ‘Austin Powers’ movie and has chosen to produce an outmoded ’70s-style sex comedy where chastity belt and erection jokes are still considered hard comic currency. Myers’s central performance as the hirsute, heavily spangled Guru Pitka is woefully misjudged, exposing his limited breadth as a comic performer as each lewd, sub-schoolyard gag sinks quicker than a limbless pack mule in an ocean of sludge.

Complete and utter waste of money.
Plot was ridiculous and the film failed miserably in it's main aim - to make you laugh. It wasn't funny in the slightest.. That sort of comedy has been done to death. Mike Myers is the same in every comedy film he acts in.
Typical American comedy - utter drivel.
Do not waste your money on this like I did.
The only consolation was that it was Orange Wednesday so I only paid half-price. (I still felt I had been robbed)

Posted on Aug 13 2008 13:58 Maybe because it isn't a groundbreaking film that all the critics are automatically saying it is crap. I saw it last week and laughed all the way through. Who cares about a silly plot, as long as something makes you enjoy it. It must be the PC brigade writing all the negative reviews

Mike Myers at his typical crap self plays one of the worst characters ever conceived in cinema history. If you're the kind of cretin who likes penis jokes and scripts which are so predictable you could practically direct the film as it happens... you'll like this nonsense. Anyone else with an IQ anywhere near average will heed warnings to stay the hell away.
