Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008)
Director: Peter Sollett
Movie review
From Time Out London
Even the most mordant of critics can occasionally find himself knocked out by the sheer, money-grubbing cynicism a film can display. ‘Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ takes everything you loved in three decades of teenage romance and twists it into something unrecognisably desperate and exploitative.First, there’s Nick (Michael Cera), the kind of lovelorn hipster nerd who makes mixtapes and plays in a failing electro band with two hilarious gay sidekicks. Then there’s Norah, the sad-eyed dreamer no one is attracted to, played by the jaw-detachingly beautiful Kat Dennings. Over the course of a drunken night in NYC, the pair drift together, apart, and back together, to a soundtrack of unmemorable indie-rock whingery.
In this post-‘Juno’ world, teenagers are required to speak like middle-aged music journalists, drink like rampant navvies on shore leave and fornicate like hotel heiresses. So perhaps it’s churlish to expect movies about them to be anything more than crass, offensive and shallow.

- Posted on Oct 08 2009 08:00 This is a delightful film. Unlike someone on this thread who feels they have to use insulting language to compensate for lack of education and lack of any emotional depth as a human being. Please go and see this delightful film. Now on DVD.

- Posted on Oct 08 2009 04:16 I love the story. And I read the book first. This book really touched me. And I just think that they could of made the movie. A little more closer to the actual story. I think the charecters played did not fit the Nick and Norah you read about. That's all so calm the FUCK down!! Smoke a joint oh and diet coke is horrible for you.

it was almost like tom (middle age film reviewer) wanted a reaction from fans hence writing utter tripe, i am pretty sure out of the whole cast, one was drunk, the rest drove everywhere!? also the sex scene was hardly a sex scene, and very tastefully done, as i am sure can be with teenagers...... awkwardness springs to mind. Maybe you should watch it with a clear head, not all your pre-prepared sentences about middle age musical journalists.
loved it, showed NY as it should be, pretty, and showed that things change pretty quick in young lives., pretty much for the better. - Report as inappropriate

A perfectly cast film which is a delight from start to end.
This is not a book, it is a film which really has a genuine charm thanks to all the actors especially the two leads
So, stick that in ya play list and smoke it all you purveyors of misery. - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Oct 05 2009 02:56 I think the movie was a discrace to the book. That skank shouldn't have been Norah. Ellen Paige should have been Norah and someone else than cera.the movie stripped the whole beautiful message that the book foretold. It's about love and lust and music and it's awesome. But the movie sucks I wouldn't watch it READ THE BOOK!

- Posted on May 28 2009 12:25 I thought this film was amazing! I'm shocked by the review as I thought the story and characters were charming and sweet. The crazy friend kept the comedy in balance when things got a little too serious with her drunken antics :) and there are some great jokes in there. It's absolutely one of my top films, I also have a little obsession with it! And to Jo: Norah is constantly used by people in her life just so they can use her Dad's studio. The fact that Nick was a true friend and liked her for who she was, not for her famous father, made her trust him like she hasn't trusted anyone else before. She rewards him by letting him into the studio (and her pants!) Don't listen to the review, this film is so cute, you have to see it :)

- Posted on Mar 30 2009 02:25 What annoyed me most about this movie was how the Nora character seemed charmingly shy about sharing that she had a famous/powerful recording industry father at first, and heroically ditched her love interest when she realized that he was using her to get a record deal from her father, but then immediately takes Nick to her father's recording studio to show it off. I just couldnt buy her after that.

- Posted on Feb 10 2009 15:01 This movie had it's moments but for the most part it was a waste of time. Much like "Juno" the language used seemed really out of place, like the writers were trying to ram "cool" down your throat and it just makes these "high school kids" sound like they're in their mid-30s. That and I'm tired of Cera's act. He has no charisma or for anything I've seen...acting ability. He just stands there quietly with a "feel sorry for me" look on his face. But overall it was a cute little forgettable movie that tried too had to be hip instead of a good movie.
