Synopsis

Guinea pig spies throw a wrench in a billionaire's plans for world domination.

Movie review

From Time Out London

‘Mission: Impossible’ and ‘Short Circuit’ meet ‘Babe’ in this passable CGI-enhanced live-action kiddie diversion which takes suspension of disbelief to new levels by way of an assemblage of talking, crime-fighting guinea pigs. The padded-out story essentially revolves around malevolent entrepreneur Bill Nighy’s clichéd plan to rule the world by having questionable military-grade microchips installed in his company’s widely-distributed domestic appliances. When Zach Galifianakis’s Dr Dolittle-like miltary boffin smells a rat, he sends in twitchy-nosed rodent Darwin and his cute, well-equipped brethren to carry out a spot of against-the-clock espionage. Hollywood’s current sheep-like insistence on releasing most kids’ films in 3D continues unabated with this sprog-friendly Jerry Bruckheimer chase-fest. Rugrats will probably think differently, but I for one have had enough of watching fuzzy footage through stupid glasses. Though the film as a whole delivers ample thrills, it does lag occasionally and is encumbered by bland voiceovers and a lack of laughs

Posted on Aug 23 2009 15:35 OK, it's not up to a Pixar or Ice Age, but there's some cool 3D chases & enough cuteness to keep kids of all ages out of the sun for the afternoon. It's clearly made for big screen 3D so don't even think about any DVD release. The human 'actors' should be referred to Trading Standards for misselling.

Posted on Aug 11 2009 12:47 My 5 year-old and his friend really enjoyed the film...though why I have no idea as I found it witless, lifeless, characterless and a sad waste of talent.

Posted on Aug 08 2009 19:55 i really enjoyed it. i took my daughters (8 and 13) to see it today and they both thought it was very sweet. my 13 year old wasnt too keen on seeing it, however she said she was pleased she went! we werent expecting much from the 3D (we didnt even realize the cinema would supply the 3D glasses!) but the effects and effort put into the film were grately appriciated by us! it seemed as though others in the cinema were enjoying it too and when the images pop out everyone ducks, as if its going to hit you! very joyus! i personally reccomend it to anyone who is into animated talking animals, films such as Finding Nemo, Toy Story and other disney classics such as The Lion King and Jungle Book! :)
