Movie review
From Time Out London
Like its predecessor 'Flanders', this is watchable enough and an improvement on the wretched 'L’Humanité', but it still feels bogus in its Bressonian aspirations and mechanical in its religiosity and ‘mysterious’ narrative drift. About (but is it really?) a young nun returned to the world to curb her more extreme inclinations, whose chance encounter with two Arab brothers from the Parisian projects has literally earth-shaking consequences, the film is often utterly implausible except on the most superficial levels. Sokolowski is occasionally effective as the lead, but she’s not subtle enough to make the film make proper sense; an inevitable ‘redemptive’ ending is pure, plagiaristic tosh.Author: Geoff Andrew
