Bonded By Blood (2010)
Director: Sacha Bennett
Movie review
From Time Out London
What is it about the 1995 Rettendon Range Rover Murders? A trio of gangland hard nuts getting offed has now inspired three feature films: 2000’s ‘Essex Boys’ (solid, though names were changed), 2007’s ‘Rise of the Footsoldier’ (a shameless cavalcade of reprehensible carnage) and now this offering, sharing a producer and some cast members with ‘Footsoldier’. The approach here is more character-based, exploring the business and personal tensions leading up to the killings, yet these remain deeply unsympathetic individuals. The portentous direction (meaningful still poses and all) is seriously out of place in a bread-and-butter, homegrown crime flick and, without a micron of audience empathy, rather academic. The majestic Tamer Hassan delivers the definitive coked-up Essex psycho performance; shame the movie’s not sussed enough to make much of it.Author: Trevor Johnston

- Posted on Jan 17 2011 21:01 this is by far a much more honest version of the essex boys murders than essex boys and far more realistic than the over the top but enjoyable rise of the foot soldier.tamer hassan puts in a top notch performance as the drug induced deranged pat tate as does neil maskell as craig rolf.terry stone gives a more subdued but good performance as the equally drug enduced unstable tony tucker.superb film.

- Posted on Jan 12 2011 13:24 Its a pity this film is the third based on this story as it will not get the credit it deserves as it is by far the best of the three.very good acting&direction of a true story that is both creepy&compeling,a good study of human greed, vanity&stupidity with a final outcome that shows crime does not pay.even though the outcome of the story is well known it is still a surreal yet true story.get to see it if you can,its worth it.

- Posted on Jan 11 2011 10:19 A very entertaining and far more realistic version of the triple gangland essex boys murders.great performances by a good cast.its much more underplayed than rise of the foot soldier and far more close to the facts than essexs boys.there are no unrealistic 10million pounds worth of missing heroin plots to insult your intelligence.there are some grusesome scenes but they fit into the film unlike some films of this genre.by avoiding being over the top this true story comes across as more chilling than the other two films on the murders.tate tucker and rolfe are portrayed as three drugged up nasty out of control ego trips who bring about their own downfall.highly recomend this film, its a brilliant drama/thriller.

- Posted on Jan 10 2011 11:54 Great film,no silly football hooliganism or doormen with big ego's.it has some gruesome voilence but not of the rise of the foot soldier overkill type-ie-every next scene.this makes the main characters even more menacing in my opinion.it concentrates on the actual story of tate, tucker&rolfe(who are truly rotten to the core)&the lead up to their murders.there is much more to bonded by blood than either essex boys or rise of the foot soldier.a truly horrific yet fasanating true story.outstanding film.

- Posted on Jan 10 2011 09:10 This is a much better film than essex boys or the sensationalist rise of the foot soldier.it avoids the"must have a violent scene"every2or3minutes senario and gives more insight to the characters who still come across as vile.by far the best film made about the rettendon murders.interesting to note that carlton leach is not refered to once in the film.dont expect rofs part2 or you will be dissapointed, bonded by blood is by far the best of the three films on the subject.

- Posted on Sep 10 2010 13:27 The Film stuck to the real story more than the previous films, the actors matched the characters better than before and it came across as a tough thriller/drama. Cant see whats bad about that.

Went to the Premiere last night, completely agree that there is very little sympathy from the audience. I loved it! didn’t think I would, I was amazed at the performances from Neil Maskell (Craig Rolf), Tamer (Pat Tate), very entertaining and gripped me throughout. We all know how these things end but until they do be prepared for some absolute belly laughs and some scenes that will make your eyes water.
Definitely one to watch - Report as inappropriate
