From Time Out London
The love lives of London’s twentysomethings are placed under the microscope – again – in this vaguely amusing but unremarkable romcom. In a cast of faintly familiar faces, ‘Shameless’ star Gerard Kearns stands out as Fran, recently dumped and out on the prowl accompanied by his mouthy Manc chums Jon (Al Weaver) and Ben (Chris Coghill). Fran’s search takes him through the pubs and cafés of Camden, across a handful of rainswept parks and even to an awkward Rabbinical dinner overseen by the original Adrian Mole, Simon Schatzberger, whose appearance is an unexpected highlight. The template is clearly Woody Allen, but the photography, plot, soundtrack and running time are more suggestive of a fairly average episode of ‘This Life’. There’s potential in the early scenes: the script sports a few decent lines and the cast are uniformly likeable. But it quickly becomes clear that writer-director Col Spector simply lacks ambition, with half-formed characters, uninspired direction and a plot which leads precisely nowhere.Author: Tom Huddleston
