Benedict Cumberbatch is James, a man dying of cancer in this amiable but laboured ensemble piece. James convenes three male friends for a coastal camping trip so they can say their goodbyes. Mostly it’s an off-road movie as James’s pals carry or push him in a homemade rickshaw, and there are various hiccups of the emotional and slapstick kind along the way. Each of his friends are formerly creative types lingering in less artistic jobs, and James takes it on himself to vent anger about their failed ambitions. The script is too full of events and outbursts for it truly to convince, but the actors bring charm to the film and director Hattie Dalton has a pleasingly light touch.

Posted on Mar 05 2012 12:31 This film deserves more than the 2 star Time Out review. The plot is a bit predictable and the extras at the pub are bad but the acting is superb; the cinematography spectacular. The High Bonneville scene as the beachcomber is a scream! I cried at the end, which for me is rare. Very much worth a watch.

Posted on May 25 2011 11:35 This is a really strong film, with believable characters and great chemistry. Beautiful acting all round, with an excellent central performance from Benedict Cumberbatch.
Dalton handles the material sensitively to create a funny, poignant and moving film. Definitely one to watch!
