Movie review
From Time Out London
A decent cast of British acting stalwarts add a little spark to this otherwise routine single-location psychodrama. The setup feels painfully familiar – from last year’s ‘44 Inch Chest’, among others. A control-freak businessman (Craig Conway) hires a ruthless private dick (Sean Pertwee) to kidnap his wife and her lover (Martin Compston) and haul them off to a remote warehouse. But who is the mysterious woman (Kierston Wareing) he finds there in his wife’s place? The script is as uninspired as the plot, all muttered threats, cockernee slang and an initially amusing, increasingly wearying overuse of the F-word. But the cast make the best of it: Pertwee is enjoyably grim and baleful as the shady detective and Compston delivers an appropriately weaselly and oddly sympathetic turn as the confused boyfriend. The only bum note is struck by Wareing, who struggles with an awkwardly written role as the vengeful victim. The result is mildly diverting, but quickly forgotten.Author: Tom Huddleston
