Savages (2012)

Director: Oliver Stone

Synopsis

Is Oliver Stone serious? No, we’re actually asking. Viewed from one perspective, ‘Savages’ sounds like a deadly serious and timely action thriller about two men forced to confront the deadly force of a Mexican drug cartel. From another, it sounds like a Cheech and Chong movie: our two heroes, played by Aaron Johnson and someone with the unfortunate name of Taylor Kitsch, are pot growers who take on the cartel to rescue their shared girlfriend (yes, you read that right), a hippie dropout called O. Director Stone isn’t exactly known for his comic chops (‘W’ notwithstanding), so we’re assuming this is a dramatic movie which just happens to sound like a ridiculous stoner comedy. Either way, it should be a lot of fun.
