From Time Out London

A superior and impressive remake of a much revered but crude 1990s Bolly cult classic. The simple plot is pure ‘masala’: Vijay (Hrithik Roshan) swears to exterminate the evil Kancha (Sanjay Dutt), the killer of his dad. This works in 2012 because the filmmakers obviously love and understand the Bollywood genre. Every single ingredient of the ‘formula’ is present: it’s even three hours long.

Plus there is the evil villain (Dutt), the mother-son conflict, the obligatory love interest (Priyanka Chopra), gritty dialogue, catchy songs (frustratingly, not subtitled) and the A-list actors actually act (shocking for Bollywood!). The result is a slick vendetta flick with the right dose of Indian emotion. Things get hotter when the ‘numero uno’ actress Katrina Kaif turns up to shake her booty in a ditty which warns: ‘Smoking is injurious to Health’.

Posted on Jan 28 2012 23:23 Devoid of fluff, the hyperbole toned down, and shorter, Agneepath would have been a far superior film. In its present form, it packs in enough punch to warrant a viewing. How much you enjoy it, though, will be directly proportionate to how much melodrama you can withstand. Old school Hindi film lovers, however, are in for a treat.
