Time Out says

It's hard to fathom just what the makers of this low budget British film were thinking, since - for all its pillage, pustules and Lena Headey in a chastity belt - this mud-splattered revenge drama, set in plague-threatened 1348 England, doesn't deliver as an exploitation movie, and is nowhere near sophisticated enough to pass as anything else. Ian McNeice evidently does a very nice line in corpulently corrupt prelates, but there has to be something wrong with a film where the body sores are the highlight.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I speak for myself, however, I have to sya that I enjoyed this movie and as much as you criticize, historically speaking, some of this could verywell have happened. Nonetheless, thank you to the director and all the actors who took a chance and participated in this great movie.
