This '80s-set footballing story has a peculiar pedigree. A fairly strong cast – Natasha McElhone, Brian Cox, Toby Stephens – join forces with a largely untried director, David Scheinmann. His only previous effort was 2006’s largely forgotten ‘The West Wittering Affair’. The screenwriters are Italian, and the title was originally ‘Theatre of Dreams’, before switching to its current bland, forgettable moniker. It’s the tale of a young football fan whose dreams of glory on the pitch are helped along by legendary Man U manager Matt Busby. Reviews from the Zurich Film Festival pegged the film as an enjoyable enough slice of twinkly British wish-fulfilment.
