Time Out says

Nauseatingly cute musical whimsy about an inventor (creations courtesy of Rowland Emmett) and his wonderful magic car. Ken Adam's sets are inventive, but the special effects are shoddy, the songs instantly forgettable, and the leisurely length an exquisite torture.

He said the special effects are shoddy...lol. "exquisite torture" who says something like this? I don't think you actually saw this movie, but you should have when you were a child, you might have a better perspective on imagination. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is by far one of the best movies for children to watch and let the imagination flow. It's fun and and the songs will stick in your head even thru adulthood.
