Gregory's Girl

Slight but highly entertaining comedy about a Scottish schoolgirl who becomes a wizard on the football team (arousing male resentment, naturally), and the lanky Gregory who fancies her from afar. Strong performances and a naturalistic script, which zooms in on adolescent delusions and embarrassments, keep things going at a leisurely pace. Quirky and utterly endearing, it nevertheless reveals the director's definite lack of interest in the visual textures of his films.
