Time Out says

A long-running Asian family feud could impinge upon the wedding plans of would-be bride Shalini (Amara Karan) in this comedy-drama drawn from writer-director Amit Gupta’s own background among Leicester restaurateurs. Exactly what’s come between her dad (roly-poly character actor Harish Patel) and her uncle (a cranky Kulvinder Ghir) to make them split the hereditary recipe book in half and open rival restaurants isn’t initially revealed, and the movie makes a serious misjudgement by taking so long to unveil past events. Still, ‘Jadoo’ aims for authenticity in subtitled Hindi dialogue at home, and sensibly doesn’t overplay the fact that the fiancé of the extremely charming Shalini is a white surgeon – even if Tom Mison’s utterly wooden performance is another minus point. Ultimately however, it fumbles the two main storylines, and isn’t specific enough about the special qualities of the family’s culinary skills to make us feel we’re getting any special insights in return. No shortage of appetising ingredients here, yet the execution sadly fails to make the most of them.
