If you want a no-brainer prediction for 2013: stand-up comic and actress Rebel Wilson will be everywhere. She was the weirdo flatmate in ‘Bridesmaids’ and is a writers’s dream: she makes funny funnier. And this college comedy is already pretty funny. It follows the naffest tribe on campus: acappella singers. An all-girl group, The Bellas, are recruiting. What they want are super-hot girls with bikini-ready bodies and perfect pitch. What they get is Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) and alt-girl Beca (Anna Kendrick) – who tries to take the group from Mariah Carey-lame to hip hop-cool.

‘Pitch Perfect’ isn’t quite up there with ‘Bridesmaids’. In places it feels like a textbook comedy – a running gross-out joke about projectile vomiting is lazy. But ‘30 Rock’ and ‘New Girl’ writer Kay Cannon has created brilliant characters. Best of all is Fat Amy; in any other film, she’d be picked on or made fun of. Here, she’s the coolest woman in the room. ‘You call yourself “Fat Amy”?’ someone asks her. ‘Yeah, so twig bitches like you don’t do it behind my back.’ Genius.

  • Everything about the film is so predictable but this film is SO funny and even very moving at the end! Anna Kendrick is great..... there are too many actors and actresses to name who also really help make this popcorn film work on all the levels it was aiming to do. For an escapist film you couldn't wish for more fun.

  • You don't have to be a Glee fan to enjoy this, I'm not and I did. Some cracking sharp one-liners, good mix of old skool and new tunes, a good laugh, even if a little predictable. The competition judges reminded me of the two old men from the Muppets and the Riff Off worked well. 6/10

  • I can’t say final performance was my favorite scene out of them all; my favorite was the Riff Off. All of my favorite songs were played at that spot. One of my DISH coworkers suggested that I see the movie, and I’m glad that I did. I received it after adding it to my queue on Blockbuster @Home from DISH. It isn’t even available at Redbox, so it was nice getting it so fast.

  • This film is hilarious. Rebel Wilson is a comical genius. The music is clever and fun. Anna Kendrick proves she’s is the hidden star of twilight. Brittany Snow is BEA-U-TI-FUL yes the storyline is predictable...like all rom-coms. So what?! Its still an enjoyable watch

  • Just been to see this in a well attended preview. With the "all girls together" acappella plotline with its win against the odds story, the outsider girl falling in love and realising that friends are important it has a plot even a blind person could follow without the aid of a guide dog why did I like it? There is just enough humour to tip the scales in its favour from the wonderful pair of commentators to the interplay between the girls. Don't go expecting a film to change your life accept it as an enjoyable piece of diversion where the music is kept just below the level where enjoyable becomes an endurance. The plot is worth 2 stars but the acting and humour bring it up to a solid 3 stars.
