Dex doesn't look like a lady's man - he looks like a darts player. He wears Hawaiian shirts, works in a kindergarten, and boasts questionable facial hair. So what's his secret? How is it that women find him well nigh irresistible? With his scorecard, Dex can afford to be magnanimous. And so it is that he admits an eager young convert into the mysteries of 'the Tao of Steve', a philosophy inspired by Steve McQueen, Buddha, Steve (Hawaii Five-O) McGarrett and other icons of Zen. Jenniphr Goodman's US indie is a wry romantic comedy which ambles by pleasantly without summoning up much energy. A big, genial slob of an actor, Logue easily makes you believe he could charm the pants off anyone he set his sights on - at least until he meets his match in Syd (the director's sister Greer), an astute New Yorker. The comedy is about as cutting and subversive as the last Nora Ephron Tom 'n' Meg love-in, when you get down to it, but the witty, sophisticated dialogue and the unusual New Mexico locale set the mood all right.
