‘There’s a party at Franco’s...’ If these words, uttered a few minutes into ‘Superbad’ writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s directorial debut, make you feel apprehensive, you’re not alone. Is this going to be one of those ‘look at me’ comedies, intended to provoke love, awe and sympathy for LA’s wayward movie brats? Then Michael Cera gets a lamppost through the ribcage, and things begin to look up...
‘This Is the End’ stars Rogen and a litany of major and minor comic talents as themselves, each of them stuck in James Franco’s arty, concrete mansion as the Book of Revelations comes horribly true outside. Yes, it’s indulgent and scrappy, demanding a high level of familiarity with the leading players and an equally high tolerance for weed smoking and masturbation gags. But it can be truly funny (Cera’s coke-snorting, ass-grabbing wildman is a highlight) and there’s room for a few sharp sideswipes at infantile masculinity and Hollywood hipsterism. No comedy classic, then, but a good natured and engaging slice of goonish self-mockery.

I personally didnt like this movie, it started out good.but the more it continued the humor became cheaper and not as funny as it was idotic also I thought I went to.go.see a comdey but it turned out to be more like a scary movie. I wish I would have gotten a refund
Intermittently amusing comedy with horror and fantasy elements, over-reliant on weed and nob "jokes".

The job of a Producer is to keep the writer and director in line. Sadly when the producer is also the director and one of the writers you either get genius like Citizen Caine or a real mess. This is the latter, It is self indulgent, too far into itself and desperately unfunny. It is gross, reliant on drugs metaphors and very pretentious. No doubt it sounded funny to the writers / directors / producers when they first thought of it but to me it was a very poor 2 star film..
I went to see this film last Friday and I found it really funny more thanks to all the 'WTF's rather than because of the jokes. It's fun but you have to like films like "Dude, where's my car?"
