Korea is definitely having a moment, as shows at the Théâtre de la Ville and the Forum des Images, and street food at the Carreau du Temple have amply proved. Now the Musée des Arts Décoratifs turns its attention to the country’s creative output, with an exhibition that touches on fashion, graphic design, craft and more. The heterogeneity and dynamism of the Korean creative scene has to be seen to be believed.
From traditional crafts (delicately painted ceramic bowls, resin jewellery) to extraordinary fashions (both Imperial and modern), the show indicates an enormous wealth of talent that is still little known in the West. Anyone with an interest in design or Korea will find much to love here, but also decorative arts professionals and creatives on the lookout for the next hot thing would be fools to miss out.
