This macabre collection, attached to the neo-Gothic church of Sacro Cuore di Gesù in Prati, contains hand- and fingerprints left on the prayer books and clothes of the living by dead loved ones, to request masses to release their souls from purgatory. Begun just over a century ago, the collection includes an incandescent handprint supposedly left by Sister Clara Scholers on the habit of a fellow-nun in Westphalia in 1696, and scorched bank notes left by a dead soul outside a church where he wanted a mass said.
