The oldest part of this attractive two-storey house was built in the late 17th century as the toll office for boats travelling into Stockholm. The ground floor is divided up between a pleasant café and a museum devoted to celebrated 18th-century troubadour/songwriter Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795), who used to sing in the taverns of the city. In the late 18th century, Bellman would visit Långholmen to see an opera singer friend who worked at the prison. Copies of portraits, text in Bellman's handwriting and a replica of his death mask and lute are on display. The café staff, if they aren't too busy, are happy to answer questions in English. The café and gardens are popular with the bathers using the beach in front of the house, and concerts take place here in summer.
