The smallest and cheapest option in the Bengtsson family's hotel group, the three-star Nelson must also be Sweden's narrowest hotel, only 5m (16ft) wide. Located right on Gamla Stan's tourist strip, this tall, 17th-century building with its glass-and-brass entrance is pretty ship-shape itself. Add in the long mahogany reception desk, the portraits of Nelson, the names of the floors (Gun Deck, Quarter Deck and so on) and assorted naval antiques and you could be forgiven for thinking you were sailing the ocean blue. The 29 recently refurbished rooms are pleasant but, as on a ship, quite snug - 18 are singles. There's no restaurant, but a snack bar serves breakfast and light meals.
