Kungliga Hovstallet

Kungliga Hovstallet review Rate it

The royal family's own horses, carriages and cars are still taken care of in this late 19th-century striped brick building designed by architect Fritz Eckert. The building is so vast that it occupies almost the entire block next to the Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern. A collection of 40 carriages from the 19th and 20th centuries (some still used for ceremonial occasions) stands in a long hall above the garage. Inside the garage are 11 cars, including a 1950 Daimler and a 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood. The stalls and riding arena may be empty if you visit in the summer, as this is when the horses are 'on vacation'. This place may be a hit for equestrian enthusiasts, but otherwise the tour is not particularly thrilling.
