Kungliga Operan

Kungliga Operan review Rate it

When it opened in 1782, this opera house was considered to be one of the most modern in operation. Just 100 years later it was demolished to make way for the current opera house, which was completed in 1898. The Royal Opera has sent a string of great singers on to the international stage - among them Jenny Lind, Jussi Björling, Birgit Nilsson and Elisabeth Söderström - but, as is the case with Swedish footballers and hockey players, the most talented leave the country at a young age and rarely return to the Kungliga. It's also the home of the Swedish Royal Ballet.
