Independently wealthy layabout Zach (Lukas Haas) pines for the only thing he can’t have: an unstable woman he calls Crazy Eyes (Madeline Zima). While this nightmare of a dream girl rebuffs his every advance, Zach sleeps with other women, ignores his young son, begrudgingly pays off his wasteful ex-wife and gets into bar fights with his wingman buddy (Jake Busey)—all while passing through life in two states of consciousness: drunk and drunker. Zach’s decadent descent, apparently inspired by cowriter-director Adam Sherman’s past relationships, will test your tolerance for woe-is-me stories about spoiled fuckups. Those willing to indulge regardless will find a surprisingly satisfying character study, woozily shot and elliptically cut to mimic booze-filled blackouts.
