Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford), a doctor leading a comfortable existence, has his life turned upside down when his wife is brutally murdered. Kimble is accused of the crime and sentenced to death, but the bus taking him to prison has an accident and he manages to escape. The police assign detective Samuel Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) to lead the manhunt. Kimble knows that the only way to prove his innocence is by finding the real killer, but he has to do so while eluding the skilful chase orchestrated by detective Gerard.
