The Dairy Queen on Southport Ave in Lakeview is for sale for a whopping $3.2 million, according to DNAinfo Chicago, who spoke to the building’s owner.

Is it really it worth that much though?

To put it flatly, bluntly, no—according to the Cook County Assessor’s Office. The county put the estimated market value of the building at just $814,650 this year. The asking price is almost $2.5 million more than the powers that be say the property is actually worth.

In 2014, the county valued the iconic Dairy Queen building at $739,850.

The 124-year-old property is mixed-use, and the sale would also include three apartments in the same building. Will the DQ stay put? It’s all up to the building owner’s son, who owns it. He told DNAinfo he’d keep it if the buyer agrees, but would be willing to give it up if the new owner has other plans.

The For Sale sign was slapped on the building’s facade on Tuesday. Get those DQ Blizzards® while you still can.
