The Hypocrites will become the first Chicago theater to produce the Green Day rock opera American Idiot this fall. The show, based on Green Day's 2004 album of the same name and developed by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and director Michael Mayer for a 2010 Broadway debut, will be staged for a September opening at the Den Theatre by longtime Hypocrites member Steven Wilson, with musical direction by Andra Velis Simon and choreography by Katie Spelman.
Casting for the Hypocrites' production remains to be determined; in fact, news of the production initially broke late last week, thanks to the early posting of an audition notice, but wasn't officially announced until today. The Hypocrites' production of Beckett's Endgame opens this Wednesday, followed by the summer remount of All Our Tragic.
