The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Travel back in time

You only have a few days left to catch one of our favorite shows from Alistair McDowall’s American debut, Brilliant Adventures. There just aren’t enough plays written about time travel. Self-taught scientific genius Luke invents a time traveling machine in this darkly comic thriller that blends sci-fi and social realism. See it before it leaves Saturday! (Steep Theatre, 1115 W Berwyn Ave, 8pm. $25-$35)

2. To a steampunk alley

Each month Activate takes over an unassuming alleyway downtown and fills it with art and music from local artists and DJs with a different theme. Tonight, enter Haddock Place Alley to experience a "Steampunk Journey through Time and Space." Don’t forget to RSVP for a drink on the house! (Haddock Alley, N Wabash Ave between Wacker Pl and Lake St, 5pm. Free)

3. Then stick around for some tunes

The Piano Man is back in Wrigley Field (again). Tonight Billy Joel performs, so get ready for a ballpark style sing-along to classic hits while trying to forget that the musical Movin’ Out ever happened. (Wrigley Field, 1060 W Addison St, 730pm. $156-$599)
