I mean, look at that kitchen! New Yorkers, do you ever have dishwashers in your apartments, or do you wash each dish by hand like it's the 1950s?

Alright, we'll allow that this bathroom, the only one in the apartment, isn't so great. Hey, nobody's perfect.

Moving on to this gorgeous Ravenswood apartment a block away from the super-sized Mariano's everyone is crapping their pants about. Notice that subway tile in the kitchen, New Yorkers? Bet you only see those caked in soot in the actual subway.

This lovely place in the Gold Coast (fyi, New Yorkers, this is the highest-rent district in the city) has laundry in the unit, central air and, according to this listing, comes furnished. The building itself has a fitness center, rooftop deck with incredible views and a dog run.

And, lastly, just to put the nail in the coffin, we give you this 2,000-square-foot duplex (that means two floors, New Yorkers—can you imagine?) in adorable Little Italy, just two blocks from Taylor Street and, most important, awesome bar Three Aces. Let us count the ways this place is incredible: deck, fireplace, one-car garage, laundry in the building.

Basement bedroom = more privacy! And studies have shown that sleeping in total darkness leads to a better night's rest.*

    * We're not totally sure that's true, but it sounds plausible.

RECOMMENDED: Chicago apartments guide

New Yorkers are obsessed with apartment prices, no doubt because they are forking over most of their paychecks for apartments so small they have to store their clothes in the oven (if they even get an oven). To that end, this week our colleagues at Time Out New York joined forces with our other colleagues at Time Out L.A. to see which city has better apartments, most of which are studios, for the baseline price of $2,000/month.

To which we say: $2,000/month? For a studio?!?? Honey, sweetie, listen to us: It's competely insane to pay that much. Come to Chicago, where $2,000 gets you a goddamn palace. Check out the slideshow below for five $2,000 Chicago apartments from real estate site Zumper that will make you coast-dwelling suckers weep with envy.
