Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap gets a lot of attention for its over-the-top, super-spicy XXX chicken wings, but this month, it's taking things to an even more ridiculous level with its March Madness burger.

The burger, a nine-ounce, wood-grilled patty topped with bacon, mayo, lettuce, onions, tomato, pepper jack cheese and a fried egg, is placed between two grilled cheese sandwiches that act as buns. It’s served with either coleslaw or a pile of fries. It's like a giant serving of future health issues.

The buttery flavor of the toasty grilled cheese sandwich popped up immediately, followed by the saltiness of the cheese. The beef patty was well-seasoned, while the runny yolk of the egg helped bring all the flavors together. The bacon just added fat but not much flavor.

The fries leaned soggy and oily, and returned to the kitchen almost untouched. Given the sheer size and heaviness of the burger, I gave up after tackling a quarter of it and left the restaurant with the urge to walk off the monstrous dish.

The burger/grilled cheese hybrid seems more than appropriate for March Madness—like filling out your bracket, you need a strategy to eat it, plus the sheer volume of meat, carbs and cheese can soak up all the beer and drinks you’ll have while watching the games.

The burger is available throughout March.
