A Tribe Called Red

Canada's A Tribe Called Red are a Native electronic act that fuses the very, very old with the very, very new-indigenous North American folk tradition with an epic bass assault, what it dubs powwowstep. Not something you come across every day. The traditional chanting over tribal digital drumming is monsterously heavy and uplifting. It's as if they saw they saw all these suburban kids creating EDM on their laptops and said, THIS is dance music. Turns out, it's a pretty awesome base for hip-hop, too: "Indians from All Directions," a collaboration with Das Racist, blew up blogs recently. I can only imagine how quickly Diplo was dialing up this trio.
