Gershwin An American in Paris

Critics' pick
Photograph: Tod Rosenberg

In a program that ostensibly captures the feel of 1920s Paris, Leonard Slatkin conducts the CSO and American violinist Anne Akiko Meyers. There's some Barber and Schuman (and Gershwin, of course), but the most intriguing piece here is the debut of the Violin Concerto of Mason Bates, the young DJ and CSO composer-in-residence.

The Gershwin was fabulous, and the Mason Bates violin concerto was very interesting, with Asian instrument overtones.
