Calabruzzi's Cafe (CLOSED)

We assume you're not going to show up to a casual Bridgeport joint called Calabruzzi's and expect mind-blowing Tuscan delicacies. But if it's hefty value portions of basic Eye-talian you're looking for, you've found it. The fryer gets worked for the first half of the meal, with calamari, mozz sticks, fries and ravioli all getting a dunk in hot oil. Go for the ravioli; it's made in-house and sports plenty of seasoned crunch outside and a ricotta blend inside. Red-sauced pastas abound, and they're fine, but solid housemade gnocchi in vodka sauce and infinitely layered eggplant parm show a bit more skill. The pizza's okay if you live in the neighborhood and are ordering in, but diners should skip it in favor of an extra meatball or sausage link on the side.
