SPLURGE Shampoo, cut, scalp massage, brow and beard trim at Swagger Salon (1711 W Division St, 773-384-9001), $39
STEAL Shampoo, cut and scalp massage at Floyd’s Barbershop (1409 N Milwaukee Ave, 773-486-2280; 2572 N Clark St, 773-325-2704), $25
Like many salons geared toward the fellas, Swagger in Wicker Park offers a few extras with its $39 “usual” cut, including hot towels, a scalp massage, and brow and beard trims. But if you want to skip the bells and whistles and opt for a no-wash cut, the salon only takes $9 off the price. Just a few blocks north, Floyd’s offers a cheaper no-frills cut ($21), and if you want the massage and shampoo (which also includes those luxurious hot towels), it’s only a $4 add-on. Even though Floyd’s—with its loud music and rock posters covering the walls—has a masculine feel to it, the chain salon accepts men and women as clients. Bonus for lazy people: Each stylist has a sink at his or her station, so you don’t even have to trek through the shop in order to get your hair washed.

Money saved with steal: $14
