Characters and ships from the Star Wars universe are set to take over Edinburgh as part of a new exhibition.

Artwork incorporating the city’s landmarks alongside characters and space craft from the movies will be on display as part of the Capital Sci-Fi Con in February.

The works by illustrator Mark Boyle (with whom we had a chat about the project) are the second part of his ‘Star Wars in Glasgow’ series, this one suitably titled ‘Edinburgh Invasion’. The first part of the series is premiering at an event in Glasgow later this month ahead of the sci-fi convention in Edinburgh next year.

The ‘Edinburgh Invasion’ event will also feature art work from award-winning comic book artist Neil Slorance and Sha Nazir, director of Glasgow Comic Con, alongside props and replicas from specialist Mike Lawson. A lifesize Han Solo in carbonite and a Tusken Raider are among the pieces which will be shown.

The organisers have launched a competition for Edinburgh residents to come up with invasion artwork ideas by submitting suggestions for landmark and space craft combos. The winning idea will be produced in print and displayed at the event, while the winner will receive free entry to the event and be presented with a print of their idea signed by the artist. So f you fancy seeing the Death Star rising over Calton Hill or a landspeeder zipping down the Royal Mile, get your submission in via email before October 16.

Check out the trailer for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', which is released in December.
