All artists have incorporated 4mm-thick aluminum sheets retrieved from the Dome of the Rock in al-Aqsa, Jerusalem into their sculptures and mixed media works for this exhibition. The sheets were retrieved from the site during a massive restoration in the nineties and brought to Malaysia by a Malaysian company and a Palestinian partner, Dr Osama B, Odeh. Traces of history being turned into contemporary Malaysian artworks – this takes appropriation to a whole new level. There are about 18 artists in the show and the roll call includes familiar names like contemporary painter Jalaini Abu Hassan and sculptors Raja Shahriman and Ramlan Abdullah.
