This 200 year-old traditional dance with Hindu-Buddhist and Javanese roots was brought to Kelantan and became a predominantly popular dance in the northern region states until it was banned in 1991 due to its animistic beliefs that were deemed un-Islamic. For this edition of PUSAKA Evenings, the arts NGO brings back the forgotten traditional dance with Kumpulan Mak Yong Cempaka Villis and the family and granddaughters of the legendary Mak Yong prima donna, Che Ning. The evening's story will be the tragic tale of Dewa Pechil.
