We all know that instant noodles make for a tasty and easy meal when you’re in a pinch. But when you’re feeling more creative and want to put in a little more effort to put together a simple but lip-smacking meal that's sure to hit the spot, we recommend that you try this mamak-inspired recipe.

Grab a packet of Mi Sedaap Goreng Asli, the homegrown brand’s best-seller that’s packed with five times the amount of fried onions for extra crunch and flavour. Whether you’re looking to create your version of mee goreng or other mamak-inspired eats, this versatile base combines well with all your favourite local condiments.

To show you how easy this is to make at home, we’ve created our own Mi Sedaap recipe inspired by the popular Kai Ma dish from Mamak Lorong, a supper favourite in Subang. It’s a flavour bomb made with minced burger patties, eggs, onions and cheese. Check out the full recipe below.

1. Gather your ingredients

Even if you're not one to cook up a storm in the kitchen, you should have most of these already in your pantry: red onions, minced beef or chicken burger patties, cheese, chilli sauce, barbecue sauce, mayo, and eggs. It's just a simple mishmash of spices, sauces, and pantry staples that'll recreate the flavours of classic mamak fare. And of course, a pack of Mi Sedaap Goreng Asli – the original flavour since it's a true classic.

First, heat up the oil and fry up some sliced red onions. It's just a matter of stir-frying the burger patties next – make sure to roughly break these into mince. We went with chicken for a lighter choice to complement the savoury flavours of Mi Sedaap, but beef adds a juicier dimension.

Crack open two eggs then mix it all together. It might look like a mess, but it's a delicious mess. Go with a double patty, double egg combo for a hearty meal. Once the minced meat is nicely browned, it's all ready. Set aside for now.

3. Prepare the noodles

Cook the noodles in boiling water for three minutes before draining. Mix with the included seasoning packet, trio of sauces, and Kriuk Kriuk. It's already a solid plate of fried instant noodles but now, here's the fun part: heaping a generous portion of your minced patty mix over it. Add sliced cheese while it's still warm, then drizzle chilli sauce, barbecue sauce, and mayo over.

And you're all done! You can jazz it up a little and garnish with some chopped spring onions.
