Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

'Sightseers' star Alice Lowe makes it up on the spot in this unexpectedly charming improvised comedy.

The words ‘improvised comedy’ are precision-designed to send fear into the hearts of filmgoers. But this lo-fi, cheapo British indie about a pair of chancing-it imposters crashing a rural literary retreat in Wales is an unpolished gem. Its stars are Alice Lowe (best known from ‘Sightseers’) and Dolly Wells, who play Lisa and Claire, two sisters who pretend to be a pair of celebrated poets, the Wilding Sisters, after stealing their car.

‘Black Mountain Poets’ was reportedly shot in just five days, and inevitably has a scrappy, uneven feel to it (luckily the breathtaking landscapes fill in the gaps). But it has some genius bursts of fun characterisation and some wonderfully awkward comic moments.
