It had to happen – but looking at the talent behind this biopic of the disgraced cycling legend, we’re glad it did. The director is Stephen Frears, riding high on the success of ‘Philomena’, and a go-to guy if you’re looking for a fair and balanced portrait of a controversial figure (he made ‘The Queen’, after all). Danny Boyle regular John Hodge (‘Trainspotting’, ‘Shallow Grave’) should turn out a crackling script. And actor Ben Foster is a fine choice for Armstrong himself: he’s intense, he’s charming, and he’s not quite trustworthy. The rest of the cast is equally impressive, with Dustin Hoffman and Chris O’Dowd in supporting roles.
