5 out of 5 stars

Everything you need to know about visiting Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (1200 S Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne), one of Miami's most popular state parks.

Occupying the southern tip of Key Biscayne, this park’s wide beaches regularly make the national top ten lists. But this is more than just a place to catch some rays: there’s history, wildlife and plenty of activities too.

The famous Cape Florida Lighthouse

Cape Florida Lighthouse—Miami-Dade County’s oldest standing structure is the park's most famous attraction. Constructed in 1825, it guided mariners off the Florida Reef, which starts just near Key Biscayne. Free lighthouse tours are offered Thursday through Monday at 10am and 1pm. Brace for a heart-pumping climb to the top.

Beyond the sand

Explore native wildlife planted in the aftermath of 1992’s Hurricane Andrew; and try your hand at shoreline fishing, ocean kayaking, windsurfing, cycling and in-line skating. Covered pavilions are available for picnics, and the Lighthouse Café offers good food. Visitors are also allowed to camp near No Name Harbor for a nominal fee.

Getting to and getting into Bill Baggs

Pass the toll that gets you through to Key Biscayne and over Rickenbacker Causeway and keep driving; the park is located at the very end of Key Biscayne on the that very same road. It's open daily from 8am until sundown and admission depends on your mode of transportation (read: pedestrians pay, too!). Vehicles with up to eight people must pay $8, single-occupant vehicles and motorcycles pay $4 and cyclists, pedestrians and extra passengers pay $2.

Our Miami editorial team is constantly updating and reviewing the best attractions, activities and venues across the city, so that you're always in the know, with the best of Miami at your fingertips. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park was most recently updated with new tips on June 30, 2017.
