Fruit & Spice Park review

The name evokes images of fragrant Florida orange groves and a hint of exoticism. The reality is more prosaic. Still, it's the only garden of its kind in the US, a 30-acre park exhibiting more than 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, nuts and exotic edibles. An old schoolhouse and coral rock building illustrate south Florida's pioneer life, while the charming gift shop sells spices, jams and jellies, unusual seeds and aromatic teas, plus cookbooks on tropical fruits and vegetables. The park is also the site of the Redland Natural Arts Festival in January and the Asian Arts Festival in March. There are free guided tours at 11am, 1.30pm and 3pm daily.
